BALL PROTOCOL / ETIQUETTE

  • It will be a semi-formal event. Black tie is optional.

  • Attire for ladies: evening dress, cocktail dress, party dress or Hungarian traditional / folk dress.

  • Attire for gentlemen: dark suit with tie or Hungarian traditional / folk costume.

  • Please be on time.

  • Be relaxed and accommodating but avoid making a stir.

  • There is no stepping in during one song. Please dance the entire song with the same person.

  • Do not feel obligated to dance. If ladies decline a dance they should not dance that particular dance with someone else in order to remain polite to the other party.

  • During the dance gentlemen should initiate the conversation. Starting with a compliment might be a good idea. Avoid patterns that your partner cannot do: dance to the level of your partner. Never blame your partner for missteps.

  • During the breaks gentlemen should not leave ladies by themselves.

  • Be mindful of the size of the dance floor. Be considerate of other couples on the floor.

  • The horse d'oeuvre and appetizers are intended as culinary introduction not as full dinner.

  • Ball etiquette advises against leaving too early, especially before the main performance and speeches are over.

  • This event is open for adults only; 16 years and older are welcome.
